Friday Wine Tasting 12.30.16

Join us this New Year’s Eve Eve and pick out your celebratory bubbly! Here is what we’ll be pouring from 3-7 pm.

ZARDETTO BRUT
This dry sparkling wine from the Prosecco DOC is made of the Glera grape which provides a wealth of citrus and tropical fruit notes. This purity of fruit is preserved through stainless steel fermentation. The resulting wine offers a delicate nose of white flowers and apricots. The palate is elegant with refined beading and bright flavors of citrus, orange blossoms and stone fruits. A playful, versatile sparkling wine, this should be a staple at any celebration.

SCOTT PINOT NOIR
Scott consistently produces rich, elegant Pinot Noir. This wine from the Arroyo Seco region of Monterey County is made from low yield vineyards; a method thought to better express the delicate characteristics and terroir influences that make Pinot Noir such an enchanting and often frustrating grape. Medium bodied with bright acidity, the palate is full of sweet and spicy flavors like cherry pie filling, ginger, honey, toasted almonds and vanilla.

ENAMORE
This wine is a collaboration between renowned producers Allegrini (Italy) and Bodega Renacer (Argentina). The blend of Malbec, Syrah, Bonarda and Cabernet Franc is vinified in the classic style of Amarone. The grapes are dried on the vines, losing up to 1/3 of their weight (water). This results in a concentrated, syrupy wine with notes of raisins, ripe berries, dark chocolate and plums. There is a clean and vibrant acidity making this rich, full-bodied wine effortlessly quaffable.

GUNDLACH BUNDSCHU MERLOT
This Merlot comes from the Bundschu family’s 150 year old estate on the southwest slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. The location of these vineyards exposes the vines to consistent maritime breezes and long hours of daylight, resulting in concentrated and structured fruit. 85% Merlot, additional quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec are sourced from warmer sites to add ripeness and lushness to the wine. The aromas are pleasantly traditional for a Merlot, with violets and blueberry leading into a rich palate of blackberries, licorice and chocolate. Aged 17 months in French oak before release, this is a wine that drinks beautifully now but will continue to age gracefully for several more years.

Thursday Wine Tasting 12.22.16

Due to the upcoming holidays, this week’s tasting will be held on THURSDAY, December 22nd from 3-7 pm. We hope you’ll stop by for some fun festivities. Here’s what we’ll be pouring:

We’ll be pouring three classics from Ferrari Carano’s lineup. Ferrari Carano has been a family owned and operated winery in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley since 1981. Don and Rhonda Carano have an uncompromising devotion to quality and a firm belief that wine is first created within the vineyard. This philosophy has led them to purchase many outstanding vineyard plots throughout California: an expensive endeavor, but one that allows them complete control of their product over the cheaper alternative of purchasing grapes from a private vineyard. This devotion to excellence has established Ferrari Carano as a continuously reliable producer of quality wine.

FERRARI CARANO CHARDONNAY
This Sonoma County Chardonnay offers the best balance between bright vibrant fruit and rich, creamy oak. Aged in mostly older French oak barrels, the oak influence in this wine is more subtle, offering notes of apple pie, lemon curd and warm baking spice, while sur lie aging brings creamy texture and warm hazelnut notes. Malolactic fermentation is stopped just shy of completion, leaving a crisp, vibrant acidity that leaves you craving another sip. Pour this out with your Christmas turkey or with any wide variety of starters.

FERRARI CARANO MERLOT
Merlot can be a challenge to make, running the risk of becoming an unbalanced, hot, flabby wine. The excellent winemaking team at Ferrari Carano did an exceptional job, despite struggling with warmer than normal temperatures and the need for an early harvest. Gentle handling during fermentation and 15 months of oak aging produced a balanced wine with ripe, juicy fruit and lively texture. Lush blue and purple fruits and enhanced by warm oak spice and hints of vanilla. Velvety, supple tannins support this medium bodied wine through a lingering finish.

FERRARI CARANO CABERNET SAUVIGNON
This full bodied Cabernet is blended with a small amount of Syrah, adding to its rich, deep color and hints of peppery spice in the nose. Classic notes of cassis, dried mint and dusty leather fill out the velvety, lush palate. Bold tannins make this wine an ideal accompaniment to any roasted meat dish.

AMANCAYA GRAN RESERVA MALBEC-CABERNET SAUVIGNON
A great blend of two powerhouse grapes, this is a wine that will evolve as it sits. Rich black and red fruits dominate the nose eventually giving way to a dark earthiness. The palate is rich and vibrant with firm tannins and a lively acidity. The fruit continues on the palate underscored by truffle, dark chocolate and peppery spice. Let it breathe, and then enjoy with a standing rib roast.

EPONYMOUS CABERNET FRANC
This wine offers a complex and intense nose of blueberries and dried thyme. The palate is velvety and medium-bodied continuing blue fruit notes balanced with warm baking spice and candied orange peel. The tannins are restrained and silky, but structured enough to withstand some aging.

L’ECOLE MERLOT
Washington State is producing consistent powerhouse Bordeaux varietal wines and this Columbia Valley Merlot is a prime example. Rich aromas of plum, violets and espresso guide you into a lush, full-bodied palate of dried cherry, blackberry and oak spice.

DIAMANDES MALBEC
This signature Argentinian grape makes wines that are rich, intense and silky. This is due to the high altitude vineyards which produce vibrant and concentrated fruit. The opening of this wine presents dark fruit and bittersweet chocolate with peppery spice and smoky notes evolving in the finish.
