Friday Wine Tasting 11.24.17

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Come by and refresh your palates at our tasting this afternoon:

ANSELMO MENDES ALVARINHO CONTACTO
This Portuguese white wine is dry, rich and complex. It starts with fresh apple and pear notes that coat the mouth. Long contact with the skins gives this wine impressive structure and surprising tangy tannins. Like most Vinho Verdes, this is a great wine to enjoy in its youth, but this is also one that will improve with age.

DOMAINE JEAN-ERNEST DESCOMBES MORGON
One of the Cru Beaujolais, Morgon offers richer fruit flavors, fuller body and firmed structure than what you might expect from a regional Beaujolais and certainly a Beaujolais Nouveau. Bright garnet in color with cherry, kirsch and strawberry flavors this lush wine has a silky, round mouthfeel. Substantial tannins and fresh acidity ensure that this is a wine that will evolve with time.

MURIEL FINCAS DE LA VILLA RIOJA RESERVA
Bright ruby color fading to rusty highlights, this Tempranillo offers classic red fruit flavors paired with aging notes of vanilla, spice and dried herbs. The tannins are fine, but firm and a tart acidity keeps this wine feeling lively long into the peppery finish.

RABOSO PIZZOLATO
The Raboso grape is a high tannin, high acid grape that is typically used in the blends of Northern Italy, but is occasionally made into 100% varietal wines such as this one. With a small portion of the grapes dried “passito style” before pressing, this wine offers rich red currant, blackberry and plum jam notes. The palate is full bodied with earthy notes of licorice, spice and dried herbs developing on the finish.

Friday Wine Tasting 11.17.17

Come try some great wines to pair with your Thanksgiving dinner!

SPARR ONE ALSACE
A blend of the Alsacian Noble Grapes: Muscat, Riesling and Pinot Gris, this delicate yellow wine presents an intoxicating nose of lychee, pineapple and papaya. The palate mirrors the fruit in the nose with additional notes of fresh grass and wet stone. The palate is light and lively with a dynamic acidity that lingers into a spicy finish.

MARTIN RAY PINOT NOIR
This wine is an excellent representation of a classic Sonoma Pinot Noir. The nose is rich and intense with notes of black cherry, elderberry and dried rose petals. The palate is lush and juicy with flavors of cherry cola and dark earth undertones. French oak aging adds underlying hints of vanilla and toffee. Delicious and quaffable!

E. GUIGAL COTES DU RHONE
Cotes du Rhone are blends traditionally focused on the Grenache grape. E Guigal has produced their version with a focus on Syrah, producing a wine that is more intense and structured than its counterparts. A melange of dark fruit flavors is accompanied by savory, earthy notes of black olives, smoke and pepper. One of the most recognizable Cote du Rhones on this market, this wine also represents one of the most outstanding values.

CHATEAU MONTELENA ZINFANDEL
Chateau Montelena may be best recognized for their classic Napa Cab and Chardonnay, but when they turn their hands to Zinfandel, the results are truly stupendous. A mix of Primitivo and Old Vine Zinfandel, you get and impressively complex and Old World style wine. Aromas of dried cherry, cocoa and dried lavender guide you into a palate that is silky and supple. Fresh cranberry dominates the fore-palate with roasted walnut and clove spice evolving. The finish is clean and mineral driven with earthy flavors of cigar box and dried herbs. Delicious!

GRUET SAUVAGE BLANC DE BLANCS
Gruet continues to produce high quality, value driven Champagne style wines out of New Mexico. This Blanc de Blancs (meaning Chardonnay only) is bone dry with delicate, persistant bubbles. The nose is fruit forward with citrus and green apple notes that are mirrored on the palate. Bright acidity and a delicate, but firm structure make this sparkler a great companion to sushi and shelfish.

FESS PARKER, THE BIG EASY
This Syrah out of Santa Barbara, CA offers firm, full structure with great weight and depth of flavor. Blueberry and blackberry notes are bolstered by rich flavors of vanilla spice and mocha all coming together in a long, peppery finish.

TRUCHARD MERLOT
This wine from Carneros is an elegant, graceful example of the Merlot varietal. The nose is bright and welcoming with plenty of blueberry and cranberry fruit with hints of dried mint and cedar. The palate is smooth and full with thick, chewy tannins and lush flavors of pomegranate, plum and cherry preserves with a sweet and spicy vanillin finish.

CATENA MALBEC, HIGH MOUNTAIN VINES
Wines give attention to fruit from high altitude because these vines are stressed, resulting in grapes with more intense flavor, structure and complexity. A deep ruby-purple in color, this wine is equally intense in it’s bouquet. Purple and blue fruit notes are matched with a strong oakiness and hints of pepper and dried flowers in the finish. The tannins are fine and the acidity is bright, making this an ideal wine to pair with roasted meats.

Friday Wine Tasting 11.3.17

We’d love to see you this evening and share some delicious wines. Come on by!

MICHAEL DAVID CHARDONNAY
Handcrafted from the family’s vineyard, this Chardonnay is a fusion of style. Numerous hand pickings throughout the ripening period are used to produce three distinct Chardonnays that are later blended into a final wine just prior to bottling. The styles range from a crisp, fruit driven style fermented and aged in stainless steel, to a softer, more round French oak barrel fermented Chardonnay. The resulting combination is the perfect balance of fresh, pure Chardonnay fruit with aromas of crisp green apple, light citrus, and spiced peach.

SEAN MINOR POINT NORTH PINOT NOIR
This Oregon Pinot Noir is deep garnet in color with complex aromas of raspberry, blackberry and black pepper with a touch of leather. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with dark fruit flavors, raspberries and earthy spice notes. The wine has a bright mouth feel integrated with soft round tannins for a lengthy and complex finish.

BROADSIDE MARGARITA MERLOT
This Paso Robles Merlot presents perfectly ripe fruit leading to bright plum and black cherry aromas complemented by subtle earth, vanilla, and spice. While inviting and lush, the palate also shows the serious side of Merlot. Dry and structured, its fine tannins and fresh acidity make this a standout at the table, and for those with the patience, in the cellar as well.

T-VINE HALLOWED GROUND
This Old Vine California blend is produced as a tribute to the generations of farmers who have cared for and nurtured these vineyards. Like these vines, they have struggled and persevered, putting down deep firm roots. The nose opens with aromas of dark cranberry, baking chocolate, orange zest and a hint of cigar box. Rich blackberry and raspberry flavors coalesce with chocolate-covered cherries. This wine has good weight, with mature soft and supple tannins and a silky, lingering finish.
